How to update my LG Optimus (GT540) to Android 2.1?
NOTE: the software and firmware for this upgrade are provided by LG. Installation is not supported by Crazy John's. Upgrading your phone firmware is taken at your own risk. For further support please contact LG.
Requirements:
- Windows 2000 (SP4 or later) or Windows XP (SP1 or SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7
- Administration rights on the PC for software installation
- High-speed Internet connection (data downloads are required)
Important: Read all the instructions provided by LG before performing your upgrade.
Recommended: Because the upgrade will perform a master reset on your device it is recommended for you to back up your contacts and any apps you have installed. Check google.com/contacts to ensure your contacts have been backed up wirelessly. Click "export" to keep a local backup on your computer. We recommend AppBrain to backup your installed apps list (be aware that saved information in any app will be removed unless the app backs up to your SD card). Your SD card will not be modified during the upgrade.
- Visit LG's Mobile Phone Support page and click the "download" button ("Download LG Mobile Support Tool to PC").
- Run the downloaded file
- When the LGMobile Support Tool opens click "Customer support" in the menu, then click "Application, Manual, and USB driver download"
- In the IMEI/ESN/MEID field type your phone's IMEI number (dial *#06# on your phone to find this), then click the search button
- Double click "PC Sync" to download
- Once downloaded close ALL LG installation windows
- On your computer navigate to C:\GT540
- Run LGinstaller.exe
- Choose your language and step through the installation instructions
- At the end of installing run LG PC Suite IV
- Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable
- If an "Air Sync" promo page opens, press "cancel"
- On the left panel of LG PC Suite click "Check phone update"
- From this point follow all prompts to complete your upgrade (may include multiple driver downloads and unplugging/repluggin your handset). Installation from this point may take 5-25 minutes depending on your Internet connection speed.
At the completion of your upgrade the handset will restart. Log in using the same Google account and your contacts will re-sync in several minutes.
