What does 'handset may be locked' mean?

Generally handsets are locked to the network. This means you may have trouble using a non-Crazy John’s SIM card in your Crazy John’s phone. Depending on what plan and phone you purchase will depend the type of lock. If a phone is soft locked then it can be unlocked for free, if it is hard locked it will cost a fee to unlock.
