My Android phone won't connect to the Internet?

If your Android phone won't connect to any data, either via the browser, email, chat or through apps - you have previously been able to connect to data - try the following:

  • Go into flight mode (long press the power button, then select Flight Mode) and back out of Flight Mode again.
  • If this fails then restart the handset.

Next check the APN's:

Your Android phone might come with Crazy John’s Internet settings already installed. If it doesn’t, just follow these instructions to set up your connection.

Navigate to the Access Point Names screen:

  • From the Google Account login screen: press the menu button, press Wireless settings, then press Access Point Names. Or,
  • From the home screen: press the menu button, press Settings, press Wireless and network, press Mobile networks, then press Access Point Names.

Ensure all existing APNs are deleted. Just click on each one, press the menu button, then press Delete APN.

You’ll need to create two APNs: one for Internet and one for MMS. To create each new APN: in the APNs screen press the menu button, then press New APN. Only edit the fields listed below.

Internet APN:

  • Name: Crazy NET
  • APN: purtona.net
  • MCC: 505
  • MNC: 03
  • Authentication type: PAP or CHAP
  • APN type: default,supl (or choose “Internet” if a list is provided)
  • Press the menu button, then Save

MMS APN:

  • Name: Crazy MMS
  • APN: purtona.wap
  • Proxy: 010.202.002.020
  • Port: 8080
  • MMSC: http://purtona.mms/mmssend
  • MMS proxy: 010.202.002.020
  • MMS port: 8080
  • MCC: 505
  • MNC: 03
  • APN type: mms
  • Press the menu button, then Save

Move contacts from phone to Google account on the Samsung Galaxy S?

  • In Contacts hit the menu button and select Import/Export
  • Choose Export to SD card
  • Once done press menu again and choose Import from SD card
  • IMPORTANT: select your Google account to import into
  • On a computer visit http://google.com/contacts; sign in if you need to
  • One the right-hand panel click Find duplicates
  • Click Merge as required (or view details for each duplicate)
  • Once done your phone should automatically sync after 5-10 minutes
  • Finally press menu > More > Settings and ensure Save new contacts to is set to Google. This will mean all new contacts you add will always be backed up online

How do I use Voice Search (2.0.1) on Huawei Ideos?

If you manually update the Voice Search app to 2.0.1 you'll need to do the following to get past the welcome screen on a Huawei Ideos:

  • From the home-screen long press the search button to launch voice search
  • Carefully press down on the phone's d-pad five times
  • Press left on the phone's d-pad once
  • press the centre of the d-pad once
  • Voice search should load

How to update my LG Optimus (GT540) to Android 2.1?

NOTE: the software and firmware for this upgrade are provided by LG. Installation is not supported by Crazy John's. Upgrading your phone firmware is taken at your own risk. For further support please contact LG.

Requirements:

  • Windows 2000 (SP4 or later) or Windows XP (SP1 or SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7
  • Administration rights on the PC for software installation
  • High-speed Internet connection (data downloads are required)

Important: Read all the instructions provided by LG before performing your upgrade.

Recommended: Because the upgrade will perform a master reset on your device it is recommended for you to back up your contacts and any apps you have installed. Check google.com/contacts to ensure your contacts have been backed up wirelessly. Click "export" to keep a local backup on your computer. We recommend AppBrain to backup your installed apps list (be aware that saved information in any app will be removed unless the app backs up to your SD card). Your SD card will not be modified during the upgrade.

  • Visit LG's Mobile Phone Support page and click the "download" button ("Download LG Mobile Support Tool to PC").
  • Run the downloaded file
  • When the LGMobile Support Tool opens click "Customer support" in the menu, then click "Application, Manual, and USB driver download"
  • In the IMEI/ESN/MEID field type your phone's IMEI number (dial *#06# on your phone to find this), then click the search button
  • Double click "PC Sync" to download
  • Once downloaded close ALL LG installation windows
  • On your computer navigate to C:\GT540
  • Run LGinstaller.exe
  • Choose your language and step through the installation instructions
  • At the end of installing run LG PC Suite IV
  • Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable
  • If an "Air Sync" promo page opens, press "cancel"
  • On the left panel of LG PC Suite click "Check phone update"
  • From this point follow all prompts to complete your upgrade (may include multiple driver downloads and unplugging/repluggin your handset). Installation from this point may take 5-25 minutes depending on your Internet connection speed.

At the completion of your upgrade the handset will restart. Log in using the same Google account and your contacts will re-sync in several minutes.

How to update my Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro to Android 2.1?

NOTE: the software and firmware for this upgrade are provided by Sony Ericsson. Installation is not supported by Crazy John's.

Requirements:

  • At least 50% battery charge (Settings > About Phone > Status)
  • A micro USB cable
  • High-speed Internet connection (data downloads are required)

Important: Read all the instructions provided by Sony Ericsson before performing your upgrade.

Recommended: Because the upgrade will perform a master reset on your device it is recommended for you to back up your contacts and any apps you have installed. Sony Ericsson have provided a help page and the "Backup and Restore" app to make this easy for you.

  • Visit sonyericsson.com/update.
  • Select your phone from the list.
  • PC Companion is required. If you don't have this installed on your PC then download it now. Run the file once the download is complete.
  • Select your language then install. Read the Terms & Conditions and click agree.
  • Install MTP, it's 12MB and will take several minutes. Then click Next.
  • PC Companion will finish installing and will then launch and install drivers.
  • When the installation is complete, click Start.
  • Now connect your USB cable first to your PC, then to your phone. When prompted on your phone press "Connect your phone".
  • PC Companion will show "Connected to X10 mini pro".
  • A "New software" message will pop up. Click "Update".
  • Follow all step by step instructions in the update process exactly.
  • After the phone restarts go through the setup wizard as normal. Remember to set up Crazy John's APNs for data connection.
  • Log in to Google Services.
  • Restore using the Sony Ericsson "Backup and Restore" app if required.

How to update my HTC Legend to Android 2.2?

The update for your HTC Legend will come as an OTA (over the air) update.

Important: downloading the update over a WiFi connection is highly recommended; the update is approximately 85MB in size. If downloading over 3G please ensure you have an appropriate data allowance.

  • You will receive a notification that the new version of software is available for your HTC Legend.
  • You will be given the option to accept the upgrade over the air.
  • When the download is completed you will be prompted to proceed with installing the update.
  • The update process may take 2-10 minutes. Do not attempt to turn the phone off or remove the battery during this time. The phone will not be usable during the update and will not be able to make emergency calls.
  • Your handset will reboot at the conclusion of the update.
  • Enjoy Android 2.2!

My Samsung Galaxy Fit won't connect to my Google login?

If you can browse the internet through the Internet app on your Samsung Galaxy Fit, but you are unable to connect to any Google Services including Android Market, Gmail or Maps, then please apply the following changes:

  • From the homescreen, press the menu button and select Settings
  • Select Wireless and networks
  • Scroll down and select Mobile networks
  • Select Access Point Names
  • Select the Crazy WAP APN
  • Press the menu button, then press Delete
  • Select the Crazy Internet APN
  • Press the menu button, then press Delete
  • Visit crazyjohns.com.au/settings/
  • Choose "Samsung" from the drop down list
  • Choose "S5670 Galaxy Fit" from the second drop down list
  • Choose "Setup your phone for Internet"
  • Enter the security code and your number in the +61 format, then press send and follow the instructions
  • Then choose "Setup your phone for MMS"
  • Enter the security code and your number in the +61 format, then press send and follow the instructions

Important: ONLY send Internet and MMS settings.

My LG Optimus Black won't connect to the internet?

The LG Optimus Black P970 sold by Crazy John's may have Vodafone firmware installed. It is not possible to delete the Vodafone APN in the APN list, so you must set up new APNs according to the below intructions in order to get a data connection and use MMS.

Navigate to the Access Point Names screen:

  • From the Google Account login screen: press the menu button, press Wireless settings, then press Access Point Names. Or,
  • From the home screen: press the menu button, press Settings, press Wireless and network, press Mobile networks, then press Access Point Names.

You’ll need to create two APNs: one for Internet and one for MMS. To create each new APN: in the APNs screen press the menu button, then press New APN. Only edit the fields listed below.

Internet APN:

  • Name: Crazy NET
  • APN: purtona.net
  • MCC: 505
  • MNC: 03
  • Authentication type: CHAP
  • APN type: default
  • Press the menu button, then Save
  • In the APN list, activate the new APN by pressing the radio button next to the new APN.

MMS APN:

  • Name: Crazy MMS
  • APN: purtona.wap
  • Proxy: 010.202.002.020
  • Port: 8080
  • MMSC: http://purtona.mms/mmssend
  • MMS proxy: 010.202.002.020
  • MMS port: 8080
  • MCC: 505
  • MNC: 03
  • APN type: mms
  • Press the menu button, then Save

Once complete ensure that the Crazy NET APN is active (press the radio button next to the APN to make it active). You should see the 3G icon appear in the notification bar after 5-10 seconds.

If you still encounter connection problems after setting up the new APNs please restart the handset and try again.
