Handset Internet Email is designed to suit small-business and personal customers, with internet-based email from providers, such as Yahoo, Hotmail, iPrimus, Bigpond, or Ozemail. Handset Internet Email uses 'pull' or scheduled email and can be set up to deliver internet-based email wirelessly to your handheld. Every fifteen minutes. Or once a day. The choice is yours.
How does it work?
Handset Internet Email comprises three key components:
- Windows Mobile 5.0, Nokia, Sony Ericsson or other compatible handheld.
Many handhelds now available are relatively easy to configure for internet email and Vodafone offers a number of these.
Contact Us to find out what handhelds are available.
- Internet Email Account that accepts POP3/IMAP access.
Many internet email accounts allow POP access. This protocol allows your email to be requested from the web and delivered to your home PC and your mobile email handheld
- A Data Bundle.
How do I set it up?
To set up Handset Internet Email, you need to have a web-based internet email account, like Yahoo or Hotmail or an ISP email account that allows POP3 or IMAP access. POP, POP3 or IMAP are all acronyms for internet email.
You need to find out from your email provider what your Incoming Mail Server (POP3) and Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) names are, so your mobile phone can access these, to allow sending and receiving of email on your mobile phone.
For example, mail on xxxx@yahoo.com:
- Incoming Mail Server (POP3) is: pop.mail.yahoo.com
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
If xxxx@yahoo.com is your email address then 'xxxx' is likely to be your user name to login and read your email on the web. The password you need to enter into the mobile phone set up will be the same as the one you use to login to your email on the web.
You may be prompted to enter a "friendly name". This is the name you might want your customers or friends to see, instead of your email address.
While Crazy John's can provide advice on how to set up your email on your Handset Internet Email mobile phone, you may need to contact the manufacturer in order to get your email operational.
Pricing
To get Handset Internet Email handhelds up and running, you need a Data Bundle. Just estimate how many emails you need to send and receive each month within Australia, then choose the bundle that's right for you. If your needs change, you can move your bundle up or down each month with no hassles. Pricing is on a per kilobyte (KB) basis rather than per minute, so you only pay for the amount of information (data) you send and/or receive.

Emails can be viewed in full, so this will vary, depending on how many emails with attachments are opened, and on their size.
If you go over your Data Bundle, then you'll be charged 30c/MB.
Want to make calls?
Your mobile email handheld can also be used to make calls. If you plan to make the handheld your primary mobile phone device, you can enjoy great voice rates with one of our voice plans and integrate it with your Data Bundle.
Choose any Vodafone Voice Price Plan then simply add one of Vodafone's Data Bundles. Note: Customers cannot add a Vodafone Data Bundle to non-business plans, such as the $79 Super Cap or the $149 Maxi Cap.
If you're likely to only make the occasional call, you'll simply be charged at the following standard rates:
- Calls: 1c per second plus 20c flagfall
- TXT: 25c per SMS message
- International Data Roaming: 1c per KB (minimum 10KB session)
